On February 17, 2009, President Barack Obama, signed the much maligned as well as praised stimulus bill in the history of-I feel-mankind! At any rate no matter which side my readers come down concerning this huge spending bill, it is surrounded by extreme, at times virulent controversy. Naysayers express with adamant uncertainty that this is it for the U.S. Treasury! No chance that this debt can be repaid by our children's children many contend.
The animus not only continues but seemingly is ratcheted up daily. So much so untiI I have set out over the last few months to make my own independent assessment. I am sure many wondered about my silence in the interim and I would like to share with them a few findings readers may appreciate and hold the same interest as I discovered when I began to try, and the emphasis is on try, to discern fully what is the present "State Of The Union" now that our new presesident holds the reins of power.
Recall from the salute I offered up to the President after his historical ascendancy to the White House. An event unlike we had ever seen in this country or the world for that matter. But I also felt that this president would face and had the responsibility
for rather serious governance over some pretty hefty problems, almost nightmarish
in many respects. I believe few reading this blog would disagree if the comment is given serious thought.
So now, we have this behemoth of an economic stimulus package. AGAIN, being "cussed and discussed" (a former college professor would often wonder out loud with this saying). With the same curiosity I wonder if the matter whether such a huge spending bill's
successful end ls more or less cogitable if some of the red lights I am seeing out there wont doom its prospects of the reason for its passage.
Before I begin my analysis, I wil lask the burning question which should be on every taxpayer's mind as the stimulus price tag/debt of just over a trillion dollars though our money is a debt we must repay as far as it goes and our descendants' beyond that. How has the stimulus package benefited you and your love ones? See
www.recovery.gov. If you have to struggle with an answer, I would say 'not very much. But the stimulus is benefiting us in various degrees-NOW! How much of the 1,000 plus page stimulus Bill have you read and are you able to go to the title (as it is cited) directly to the application or funding opportunity you and or your community? How about for your business, company owners?
Two weeks after the President signed the stimulus bill into law I could only reply in a very superficial manner, with little appreciation for the paucity, the lack of depth in stimulus understanding as well as portent for the country and me individually lest I was to shore up my knowledge with my own personal efforts. It was clear to me from querying literally, hundreds of fellow-taxpayers, I was not alone. This despite the fact that simulus news is a constant topic of discussion in the media, accompanied by opinion after opinion that in my mind was poor communication of what this gargantuan economic "savior" was meant to deliver for our country -and the world which, understandably, has a critical almost panicky
nomic "savior" was meant to deliver for our country-and the world which also has a deeply vested interest in what happens in America (not to mention Wallstreet!)
