A business idea I believe would interest entrepreneurs, and it is a business I have actually already started, is my not-for-profit charity called Chance for Change. Even though we are a not-for-profit enterprise, the charity is still run like a business, whereby we have to successfully and efficiently manage income, expenses, and cash flow to ensure the charity continues to maintain the ability to carry out its mission or charitable purpose. Furthermore, this charity could eventually become a full-time commitment for me later in my career, as not-for-profit charities are allowed to pay modest management salaries as a percentage of sales so that one may support themselves while running the important executive functions of the organization.
Chance for Change was co-founded by me and three other individuals with the mission of helping to educate young women in the impoverished West African country of Burkina Faso. More specifically, we raise donations to fund university scholarships for women looking to attain advanced degrees. Not only is Burkina Faso one of the poorest countries in the world, but it also leads the world with the highest rate of female illiteracy. In addition, educational and career opportunities for women are especially limited, which is why Chance for Change believes the granting of university educations to women will help to greatly improve their opportunities for success and positive change in their country. Chance for Change is one of the very few known charities engaged in supporting university education in Burkina Faso, and we are confident that our mission is both unique and one that will attract significant donations from interested donors.
