There's a lot that goes into marketing: deciding the target audience, which mediums to advertise with, which types of advertising appeals are most appropriate, how to maximize promotion with limited funds, the list goes on.
However, what a lot of people fail to realize is they have their most powerful marketing tool in the palm of their hands: their cellphone.
Any person with two thumbs and an internet connection is capable of potentially taking their business from a one person taxi company to Uber with the power of social media.
Big companies will pay $5 million to advertise a 30-second ad during the Super Bowl, and that is understandable. Millions of viewers tune into the Super Bowl every year and that level of publicity would absolutely drive sales.
However, 1.1 billion people use Facebook every single day, and it's free to start a business page.
Many people start their business page and give up, because it is hard to dedicate the time to keep posting content when the follower count is low. Do not be that person. If you keep posting content, if you reply to every comment and every direct message, if you repeatedly get the word out about your product or company, people will start to see it.
It may take two months, it might take two years, but eventually the momentum will accelerate and your company will win.
Think about this logistically. If you accrue just 5,000 followers on Facebook posting content about your product, and just 10% of the viewers bite, that is 500 new customers.
Social media marketing is a fantastic way to reach a huge audience at a low cost, and anyone can win if they use this technique.
Attached is a video of CEO and entrepreneur, Gary Vaynerchuck, talking about the importance of social media marketing in your company and all of the benefits that come with it. He shares a lot of the same ideas and gives fantastic marketing advice that I would recommend to anyone trying to start a company.
