In its recent quarterly update, Microsoft, the parent company of LinkedIn, reported that the professional social network continues to see 'record levels of engagement', with on-platform sessions growing by 24%.
LinkedIn engagement has been on the rise for some time - but where, exactly, is that growth coming from and what types of content are generating more interest on the site?
Delving deeper into this, LinkedIn has published a new infographic, which outlines a range of updated engagement stats, which may help you better plan your platform strategy.
Among the data points listed:
- Top publishers have seen an average 120% growth in Page followers YoY
- Video is the content type most likely to spark conversation
- Messages sent have increased 35% YoY
Backing up for a second, why do marketers love stats so much? Maybe because we’re busy and it’s a quick, snackable nugget of info we can put in our back pocket and share in a meeting later to make it look like we’re up on our trends. Oh, you didn’t know that 4.8% is the average conversion rate for websites using video, compared to 2.9% for those who don’t?* Psh, where have YOU been?

Here at LinkedIn Marketing Solutions, we admittedly love stats too. Especially stats that help us understand how members are engaging on the platform. It’s true that there’s no time like the present to be on LinkedIn. Why, you ask? Because engagement is booming. Here’s just a snippet of what you’ll find in the infographic below:
- Every day, millions of posts, videos and articles course through the LinkedIn feed, generating tens of thousands of comments every hour — and tens of millions more shares and likes.
- Messages sent has increased 35% year over year.
- Millions of people have already created a video on LinkedIn, which is also the fasting growing type of content on the platform.
- Weekly members who engage heavily with content are 5x more likely to return daily.
